Mangalore: PSY’s magic has hit the shores of Kochi and in truly Amchigele style. If PSY’s Gangnam style took the global audience following it on YouTube by storm, its Konkani version “Open Cochin Style” has already received more than 9,500 hits on YouTube within 3 Days after its launch on the video-sharing website.
The popular song of Korean singer Park Jae-Sang ( PSY) has been replicated in Konkani by Konkani-speaking youths of Kochi in Kerala. Sailesh Anand S Pai, director and lyricist of the song, told TOI that very soon an album with Open Cochin Style and other Konkani songs will be released. “We are trying to pool resources to produce more songs and the album will be ready soon,” he said.
On Open Cochin Style, he said that the song features the popular restaurants and other places of GSB community. “We have shown six prominent and decades-old restaurants of Konkani community people in Kochi, which are popular in the city. We also made an attempt to popularise the food varieties, which are prepared in houses of GSB community members,” he said adding that he has been invited to screen the song at a film festival in Mangalore, which is to be organised by Mangalorean film director Sandeep Malani in April.
Sailesh, who produced the Konkani versions of ‘Mere sapnon ki rani’, ‘Kolaveri’ and Malayalam song ‘Palavattam’, said that singer Siddarth Kamath and Anush Bhat worked with him for Open Cochin Style song. Ratheesh M Kamath, Vijith J Kamath and Siddarth S Kamath have acted in the song, which was produced under the banner of Goshree Kalakshetra.
