Iran earthquake felt in UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi and Arabian Gulf

Al Ain: A severe 6.3 magnitude earthquake in southern Iran shocked the Arabian Gulf, jolting UAE coastal cities including Dubai, Sharjah and other emirates on Tuesday afternoon.

Tremors have been felt as far away as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.

The epicentre of the quake is located some 280km in the north of Manama in Bahrain across the sea. It was some 10km deep into the earth and registered as a severe earthquake.

The quake caused people to panic in Dubai’s high-rise buildings and residents rushed out to open places and parks. Some buildings in the Dubai Marina area have been evacuated and workers sent home. No casualties and property damage have yet been reported.

The US Geological Survey confirmed the earthquake’s magnitude as 6.3. The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre has reported another aftershock of 5.4 magnitude in the same Iranian territory.
