The much-awaited Konkani movie ‘Sophiya’ saw a grand release here at Prabath Theatre on Friday, May 12.
Bishop of Mangalore diocese Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza lighted the ceremonial lamp to mark the inauguration of the film. Fr Xavier Gomes invoked God’s blessings through prayers.
Speaking on the occasion, the bishop said, “Many movies are releasing in Konkani nowadays. The trend indicates that the Konkani movie industry is growing. These movies provide a good platform for our talents. Most of the artists in Konkani movies are from our region. Happy for Janet as it is a lady producing a film for the first time here. This is really a great achievement. I wish the very best for the producer, director and the entire crew of the movie.”
J R Lobo, MLA, Mangaluru south constituency lauding the efforts of producer Janet said, “Today is a great day for the entire coastalwood. Janet Noronha becomes the first female movie producer from this region. I salute her courage. Multi-lingual actress Ester Noronha has already made her name in the cinema industry. Many of our talents have come to light through movies. We have witnessed the release of a few movies in Konkani recently. It indicates that the industry is growing. This will help Konkani language and culture. I wish all success to the film.”
